A poignant farewell to Alan Methven.

MKV 2019/2021/2022 Mkv property review

We departed Maui and two days later the whole country was ordered to stay in place due to the outbreak of the world wide Covid pandemic.
Little did we know that it was going to be with us years later – Covid then omnicron then delta and now the BA.2 mutation. Dreading what’s next and hoping as a nation we can deal with it and eventually overcome it as we have dealt with polio, whooping cough, pneumonia and other diseases and sicknesses in the past.
Hawaii was particularly hard hit as the islands really have few hospitals and they have always been dependent on visiting nurse organizations to supplement their ranks. Doctors have hurdles to be able to practice their profession in Hawaii unlike where they could hang more easily their shingles in other states of the union.
West side Maui has been trying for 30 years to have a hospital on their side of the Pali, to no avail. Please see if you can add your voices to that endeavor. Thank our first responders and our loyal management and staff. They really are heroes.
Our management and staff really have worked with us in so many ways to survive to this point in time and hopefully be with us until everything returns to business as usual with glowing report cards from owners and our guests, as we certainly received before, during and now.
There were so many projects undergone on out property. It looks so refreshed, clean and even more beautiful if you can believe that.
A lot of kudos go to Hal and staff who just did, working with bare bone crews – they achieved so much.
A lot of owners arrived for the first of many years to attend the annual meeting in January. Things will get back to normal when we have our mai tai parties. Maybe Aston will have their annual owners party which in the past kicked of the season.
Elaine and Jim who organized our Dinner Dance under the stars (this year for various reasons was held at Castaways). Some of us really missed Jim’s BBQ meat and Fran’s baked potatoes. Castaways had a hard act to follow but we still had a very enjoyable evening.
We did see Fran and her crowded water aerobic classes back to their activity.  Many are happy for the morning coffee in the lobby again.
It’s great to see things getting back to normal. Seeing our property come to life again, our staff so happy to see us and making us feel so welcomed to our Ohana home. The new owners are starting to see how unique our property is. Hopefully out organizers will muster up enough helpers to put together our annual golf tournament, shuffleboard tournament and other activities that attendees will form friendships on property that strengthens our Ohana family bonds. We have some families that are the original owners descendants.
It would be wonderful if Clark Howatt and one of the Weills (they also bought a home up the hill) or Mary Goheen (know I’m  missing others) would sit down and create a history of the property that we could post.
Roy and Rosanne bought a home up the hill but still hold on to their unit on property and Rosanne still works hard taking care of our feral cat population control.
So many interesting owners. We had Sally Thorpe (they were original owners too) who organized Movie Nights in the lobby.
We had St. Pats day celebrations and great Irish dinner.
Gene and Teri Jones ran our Valentine’s shuffleboard tournament and Awards dinners.

We will be back on property for several days in July – and we are considering returning again next January. If anyone is interested in sitting down with us – we would be happy to discuss these things and give any suggestions or ideas to anyone who would like to see these traditions continue.

I do hope everyone and your family a happy Easter AND MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION
